Do More History

Travel back in time and visit historical sites in Dorchester County like Colonial Dorchester State Historic Park, featuring the town of Dorchester which was founded in 1697. Visitors can stroll along the beautiful Ashley River and visit archaeological sites, the brick bell tower remains of St. George’s Anglican Church, and the fort made of tabby oyster-shell concrete. 

How about visiting the oldest landscaped gardens, the house museum, stable yards at Middleton Place?

Dorchester County has two main library branches, the Jennie J. McMahan Library in St. George and the George H. Seago, Jr. Library in Summerville. They also have a Bookmobile, a STEM Mobile Lab, and have many more libraries planned in the future.

Our libraries offer many fun programs for members of all ages as well as an extensive catalogue of books, movies, music, and even video games. You can keep track of all the different events offered at our local libraries here

Do More EducationDo you want to broaden your knowledge? Need to complete a course to compete in the job market or finish your degree? Whether it's for your career or personal reasons, there are plenty of chances to continue your education in Dorchester County.

It's never too late to continue your education at Dorchester County Adult Education. This organization offers multiple courses and programs to help locals advance their career and job opportunities.
Courses include GED & High School Degree, Family Literacy, Computer Classes & Testing Opportunities, English as a Second Language, and more.


You can also take courses locally at the Trident Technical College Dorchester Campus. This new campus right off of Dorchester Road (10055A Dorchester Road, Summerville) is a great option for those looking to earn their associate degree or start their journey to higher education.
