In 2002, Dorchester County Council instituted a Stormwater Utility and Management Program. These fees are used for supporting the annual cost of the Program.

The program utilizes the generated funds to address the below issues associated with stormwater runoff:

  • maintenance
  • structural
  • flooding
  • water quantity
  • water quality

The program calls for a steady expenditure of funds that will result in widespread improvements throughout the County over several years. When possible, County Stormwater crews are utilized to install public drainage systems and to perform the repairs and replacements needed on older systems. This may take more time than hiring contractors, but it does keep costs lower.
