EMT Recruit School Program
This program, in partnership with Trident Technical College, hires entry level employees who are provided a combination of on-the-job training and academic study to prepare them for the National Registry of EMT's Emergency Medical Technician Basic Exam.
Candidates work 40 hours a week with four days spent on the EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum and one day spent on an ambulance developing practical skills.
A typical Recruit school workweek:
- Monday 0800-1700: 8 hours classroom lecture / practicals
- In person lecture of EMT weekly online lectures
- Skills practice and evaluation
- Tuesday 0700-1900: 12 hours ambulance ride time
- Wednesday 0800-1700: 8 hours classroom lecture / practicals
- Dorchester County EMS Specific Protocol/ Equipment training
- Extra classes/ skills specific to DCEMS
- Thursday 0800-1200: 4 hours classroom lecture/ practical’s
- Skills Lab for weekly skills
- Skills Lab for weekly skills
- Friday 0800-1200: 8 hours in-person at Trident Technical College
Students will complete the following courses during the program:
- Dorchester County New Employee Orientation
- EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course
- NAEMT Emergency Vehicle Operations Safety Course
- ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800
- Hazardous Materials Awareness
At the completion of the program, those who receive their EMT Basic certification will be promoted to the position of EMT-Crew Member with the appropriate increase in compensation.
Employee Salary and Job Title
Employees will be hired as an EMT Basic - Recruit as full time DCEMS employees making a salary of $37,505. Successful completion of the program will result in additional salary compensation.

Qualifications
Qualifications for EMT Recruit School candidates include the following:
- High School Diploma
- 18+ Years of Age
- Valid State Driver's License
**Those with experience in the medical field (Emergency Medical Responders, Certified Nursing Assistants, etc.) will be given priority in the hiring process.
