The mission of the Voter Registration and Elections Office is to promote and facilitate voter registration, properly maintain all voter registration records, conduct fair and impartial elections in accordance with state and federal election laws, protect the integrity of the election process for all, and provide quality customer service for every citizen.

 

Note: A photo ID is required to vote in South Carolina.


NOTICE OF PUBLIC TEST FOR

VOTING SYSTEM PREPARATION AND EARLY VOTING 

The Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Dorchester County will hold a Public Test of the Ballot Tabulating Equipment (DS200s) and Ballot Marking Devices (BMD) for the upcoming Statewide General. The voting equipment used for our Early Voting location and Election Day polling places will be tested and sealed beginning on Monday, September 30, 2024, and will continue each business day at 9:00 a.m. until completion. The voting equipment that will be used to tabulate Absentee by mail ballots is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024. All preparation and testing will take place at the Dorchester County Elections Warehouse located at 235 Deming Way, Summerville, SC 29483. All interested persons are welcome to attend.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Office of Voter Registration and Elections of Dorchester County will conduct a hand-count audit on:
Wednesday, November 6, 2024
ELECTIONS WAREHOUSE, 235 DEMING WAY, SUMMERVILLE, SC 29483
Audit Time: 10:00 A.M.

The purpose of a hand-count audit is to ensure the number of ballots cast was accurately recorded by the tabulation device. Additionally, the audit ensures that the number of votes cast for a particular candidate was accurately recorded by the tabulation device.
Audited precincts and contests are selected by the State Election Commission and are published on SCVotes.gov.

Photography/Videography is Prohibited

 Article II §1 of the South Carolina Constitution states, “[a]ll elections by the people shall be by secret ballot, but the ballots shall not be counted in secret.”

To ensure secrecy of the ballot, photography/videography is prohibited during hand-count audits.
