The Public Information Office is responsible for creating and enabling communication from the county to our community, the media, and other audiences. 

Primary Services include:

Media Relations

The Public Information Office is tasked with providing consistent, accurate, and timely information to the media in a coordinated manner while keeping County officials informed of emerging media issues. 

Inquiries from the news media are given a high priority and responded to as quickly and efficiently as possible. Every effort is made to meet media deadlines and to ensure released information is accurate.  

Marketing 

This office develops, executes, and analyzes strategic marketing plans, sub-plans and campaigns, creates advertising concepts, and designs and maintains the integrity of the Dorchester County brand among all audiences.

Public Relations

The Public Information Office facilitates engagement opportunities for residents, develops web content and messaging, and ensures the proper message is disseminated to the appropriate audiences. 

Emergency / Crisis Communications

The Public Information Office works with the Emergency Management Department to provide timely and accurate information to all audiences before, during and after a natural or man-made disaster.

Dorchester County Disaster Loan Outreach Center: SBA Assistance for Tropical Storm Debby Recovery

The Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved a disaster declaration for Berkeley County and Orangeburg County due to the damages caused by Tropical Storm Debby. This declaration also includes the contiguous counties of Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun, Charleston, Clarendon, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Lexington, and Williamsburg.

Key Dates:

  • Physical Damage Loan Application Deadline: November 18, 2024
  • Economic Injury Loan Application Deadline (for businesses): June 18, 2025

Affected residents and businesses in these counties are eligible to apply for low-interest loans to assist with repairs and recovery:

  • Physical Damage Disaster Loans for home and business repairs.
  • Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) for businesses experiencing lost revenue.

Dorchester County Disaster Loan Outreach Center: The SBA will host a Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) at the St. George Library from Monday, September 30 through Saturday, October 5.

Hours of Operation:
Monday: 11:00AM-6:00PM
Tuesday - Friday: 9:00AM-6:00PM
Saturday: 10:00AM-2:00PM
Sunday: CLOSED
