Equine Disaster Preparedness Workshop

The Dorchester County Emergency Management Department (EMD) is partnering with Clemson University to help horse enthusiasts prepare for hurricanes and other disasters.

The workshop is free and open to all horse owners and enthusiasts of the Lowcountry. It will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the County Council Chambers located at 500 N. Main Street, Summerville.

Speakers include Dr. Charlotte Krugler, Emergency Preparedness Veterinarian, Dr. Sean Eastman, Director of Field Services, at Clemson University Livestock-Poultry Health (SC State Veterinarian’s Office), and Dr. Justin Miller, Senior Veterinarian at Charleston Equine Clinic.

The workshop will educate horse owners and others on what South Carolina is doing to support horse owners before, during, and after a disaster. Other topics include:

Appropriate equine disaster supplies
Evacuation tips and decision making
Emerging equine diseases
